Hurricane Irma devastated many of the islands of the Caribbean as well as the Florida keys in September last year. Key Largo and Key west were probably the least impacted by it’s destruction. Islamorada and Marathon were the hardest hit. According to the Florida Keys Tourism Council, 80% of the hotels are currently open and doing business.However, there are still a number of hotels that are scheduled to open this month as well as a few more this fall.
The Key West Airport has been open and operational 5 days after the storm. The Florida Keys Overseas Highway is completely open all the way to Key West. All Florida Keys attractions are open including most of the fishing charters throughout the Keys.
The Dry Tortuga’s National Park is open and both the fairy and sea plane service are running regular schedules.
Power, water and utilities are almost completely restored for all the island keys.
